CHILDREN at Lyde Green Primary School are helping to put more books onto the shelves with a month-long reading challenge.
The Remarkable Reading Challenge was the idea of two pupils at the school, who were inspired by World Book Day to read 20 books between them during March, in return for sponsorship.
Parents’ and supporters group the Friends of Lyde Green Primary (FOLG) set up an online fundraising page to collect donations, with a target of £200.
Since the start of the challenge a total of 15 children have joined in, supported by the school’s librarian who is keeping track of their reading.
Better still, the initial target of £200 has already been smashed, and had passed £240 as the Voice went to print.
Silvia Ribeiro, of FOLG, said: “They have so far collectively read 34 books, raised money and, most importantly, had loads and loads of fun.
“We are so proud of our bookworms.”
