Life-saving training

RUNNERS who attend the Pomphrey Hill parkrun learned basic lifesaving skills with Great Western Air Ambulance volunteers.

Organisers of the parkrun decided to hold three training events in May following an incident in January, in which a member needed CPR and resuscitation with a defibrillator following a medical incident.

The runner is now recovering and has even been able to return to a parkrun.

Parkrun volunteer Meryl Grimshaw said: “These events were well attended and all those who took part have learned potentially life-saving skills they hope never to need to use.

“We would like to thank them for their time and support for our community.”

Pomphrey Hill parkrun has been held weekly for ten years: organisers say more than 450 events have been held, and 15,000 people in total have run, jogged or walked the three-lap, 5km course, supported by almost 1,500 different volunteers.
