Long walk raises £6,000

AN Emersons Green woman and four friends have raised more than £6,000 for charity Children’s Hospice South West with a 53-mile walk.

Beverley Wallace and friends Claire Lawes, Julie Leyshon, Julie Burley and Angela Norman walked from Wembury to Dartmouth in Devon in a challenge they called ‘5 ladies, 5 days and 50 miles’.

The friends broke the walk up into sections of around 10 miles a day and set up an online donations page for the charity, which looks after children and young people with life limiting and life-threatening illnesses.

They said: “At times we had to dig deep to keep our spirits up. We often sang, making up the lines to traditional marching songs.

“We have been stunned with how much we have raised and maybe, just maybe, we may plan another one.”

Beverley said the “incredible kindness, generosity and humanity from friends and strangers” they had received had restored her faith in humanity. The friends’ JustGiving page can be found at tinyurl.com/zdu4mwdy.
