School team meets Bishop Bosco

CHILDREN from a Downend school’s chaplaincy team got to meet the Bishop of Clifton at a special event to celebrate the religious side of life in schools.

The children from Years 3 to 6 at St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Primary School met Bishop Bosco MacDonald at a chaplaincy commissioning mass in Clifton Cathedral on November 8.

The mass was for all Catholic schools in the Diocese of Clifton, which covers the Bristol area, and involved hundreds of children who had also been nominated as chaplains.

The team represents the school in its Catholic life, helping with masses and running a school chapel at lunchtime, along with other duties, although members do not have to be Catholic to take part.

Head teacher Mark Hilliam said: “St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Primary School has a long and proud tradition of choosing children for its chaplaincy team.

“The children come from all faiths or none, and help with the prayer life of the school.

“They were really excited to meet Bishop Bosco at Clifton Cathedral and receive their chaplaincy badges.”
