Ready to Revel

PUCKLECHURCH is preparing for its annual Revel and Beer and Cider Festival, which will take place on June 21.

The ‘Revel Royal Family’ was selected at a family disco at the community centre last month, including a king and queen, prince and princesses and two pixies.

Stalls and entertainment on the recreation field are planned for the day, with the beer and cider festival taking place in the community centre in the evening.

The volunteer organisers say the festival will be a “toned down version” this year, as they prepare for a much bigger event in 2026, when they will be marking the 75th anniversary of the Revel and the 50th anniversary of the beer festival.

Money raised at Revel is given out to village organisations, but this was not possible last year after the event was hit by rising costs and stormy weather; hence some economy measures, including the decision to cancel the beer festival’s Friday night session this year.

Sponsors are still being sought: anyone who can help should email Pucklechurch.revel@gmail.com.

The first modern-day Pucklechurch Revel, in 1951, was held to mark the Festival of Britain following World War Two and revived an ancient West Country tradition.

The first beer festival in 1976, in the grounds of Pucklechurch House, celebrated the 25th anniversary of Revel.
