CHILDREN at Pucklechurch Primary School have been learning skills that could save a life.
The school’s Year 2 and Year 6 pupils had first aid workshops where they learned a range of important techniques and knowledge from specialist tutors Mini First Aid.
Head teacher Gemma Jones said: “Our year 2 children learned simple first aid techniques for cuts, scrapes and head bumps and learnt how to call 999 and the importance of knowing your address in an emergency situation.
“They practised safe eating to minimise the risk of choking.
“Our older year 6 children practised CPR techniques on mannequins and learnt to secure an injured arm in a sling, elevate and apply pressure to a wound as well as practising putting each other into recovery position.”
The school’s newly expanded Early Years environment is proving a hit with new Reception pupils and South Gloucestershire Local Authority Schools Effectiveness Team.
Mrs Jones said: “We have repurposed an area within school so that the children have more space to explore bigger, improved role play, construction and creative areas.
“New resources have been purchased to support imaginative play, fine and gross motor skills and early number sense so that the children get the very best start at school.”
The council team said the new facilities are providing “high-quality learning opportunities for the children”.
The school is inviting prospective parents and pupils to visit in November and December.
