ORGANISERS of the first ever Emersons and Lyde Green Flower, Produce and Crafts Show are “thrilled” at the response from the community.
The show, held at Emersons Green Village Hall on June 27, attracted just over 300 entries and hundreds of visitors.
Exhibits ranged from flowers, fruit and veg to jam, cakes and needlework, with special classes for children, family and group entries.
There was also some seasonal entertainment from the Brigstowe Village Band, who performed outside the hall in traditional English country summer costume.
The volunteers who put on the show are already planning another one next year.
Show chair Claire Ruggiero said: “The quality of the exhibits was fantastic, thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of local residents who supported this community event.
“There were several local craft stalls and a charity plant sale, which was very popular.
“The delicious homemade cakes with coffee and tea, served by the WI Beechmere Belles, were a great success and helped raise much-needed funds.
“The village hall is an amazing space to showcase our first-ever flower and craft show.
“Everyone is thrilled with the hundreds of fantastic exhibits, the wonderful WI café, the amazing Brigstowe Village band, which kept everyone entertained, and the community buzz throughout the event.
“It was a great day that everyone enjoyed.”
Claire and her team also thanked Sainsbury’s and The Wild Zinnia for their support, and are encouraging more local businesses to help grow the event next year.
The show was the final event of the month-long Earthfest festival organised by the Friends of Emersons Green Park and Emersons Green Town Council.
The annual celebration of our relationship with the Earth featured 18 different events in its sixth year.
