SOUTH Gloucestershire Council chair Adrian Rush visited Emersons Green Library to launch this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
Children aged four and over are being invited to visit the library and take part in the challenge, called Read to the Beat, which encourages them to explore the connection between stories and songs, discovering how they can spark imagination and creativity together.
The free challenge runs until September 12.
It aims to help children become more independent readers and keep them reading over the school holidays.
Children are given a free activity bag to get started and read books of their choice throughout the summer, taking part in activities and collecting stickers and rewards along the way.
Those who finish the challenge receive a medal and certificate, along with a voucher for a free swim at their local leisure centre.
Cllr Rush said: “I’m sure all of the children taking part will have fun discovering some fantastic stories and developing a love of reading that can last a lifetime.”
