IT has been a fantastic year for Downend Cricket Club.
The 1st XI just missed out on promotion, finishing third in West of England Premier League Division 2, winning 11 out of 18 games and fighting at the top of the table until the end.
Callum Loud top-scored with 1,180 runs, Jordan Garrett hit 850 and Masoor Khan 832, while Ross Robbins took 30 wickets, Maz Khan 24 and Matt Jackson 21.
The 2nd XI experienced a challenging but hugely valuable first ever season in WEPL 3.
We knew the step up in standard would be a tough one. Unfortunately, a number of injuries, alongside several players moving away from the area, weakened the squad. The team played some really good cricket, with some excellent highlights, including memorable wins over Knowle 1st XI and Bath 2nd XI. They came agonisingly close in five or six key games, but will be back in the B&D Senior League next season.
Downend 3rd XI had a good season. After a poor start, they put a good run of results together to finish fifth.
Standout performers included Temoor Naeem, with 27 wickets and 215 runs, and Rehan Shahid, who took on the responsibility of the new ball every week and bowled consistently throughout.
They look to kick on and hopefully gain promotion next season.
After several years without one the club was delighted to field a 4th team again – a great reflection of the growth of our junior section.
Our Ladies were Softball T20 South champions, thanks to some incredible team performances and outstanding individual displays.
The team represented the club brilliantly all season and fully deserve their success.
