Fourth attempt to build on field

A NEW and expanded bid to develop a site on the edge of Pucklechurch has been unveiled.

Developer Chapel Hill Homes has applied to build 34 homes behind Hillcrest on Abson Road alongside the Back Lane bridleway.

Three previous schemes for between nine and 15 homes on the plot have been turned down in recent years but the developer says its plan addresses the earlier transport concerns.

The site is in the Green Belt but the developer says it should be considered as ‘grey belt’ as it meets the Government’s National Planning Policy Framework criteria for land that can be developed.

It says the scheme is “an appropriate form of development in a sustainable location”.

Chapel Hill Homes proposes a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroomed properties, half of which would be designated as affordable.

Most would be two-storey, but a “building of note” close to Back Lane would be two-and-a-half storeys high.

The developer proposes a new junction with Abson Road, a play area, a community orchard and improved pedestrian and cycle links.

The site is not included for development in South Gloucestershire Council’s draft Local Plan, which has just undergone its examination in public but has not yet been adopted.

Another site on the opposite side of Abson Road is in the plan as suitable for 60 homes.

Outline planning permission was granted earlier this year for 100 homes at Marsh Farm, closer to the village on the corner of Abson Road and Feltham Road.

Pucklechurch Parish Council was due to discuss the plan after the Voice went to print, at which point no public comments had been made on the plans. They can be viewed on South Gloucestershire Council’s planning website by using the reference number P26/02264/F – comments can be made until November 11.
