SOUTH Gloucestershire Council expects it to be another two months before the Jamie Clapp memorial skate park in Emersons Green is back in use.
The skate park has been fenced off since April as the council carries out major works at the site next to Emersons Green Shopping Centre as part of the £6.5 million Linking the Greens project.
When finished the area will have new paths and steps, upgraded street lighting, wildflower and tree planting and a 4m tall bronze sculpture.
The scheme aims to encourage more use of Newlands Bridge linking Emersons Green and Lyde Green, and upgrades on the other side have already been finished.
But it will not include reinstating the BMX track that previously stood next to the skate park, but had become overgrown in recent years. It has now been flattened.
The council says the skate park and path to the bridge has been fenced off “for the safety of the public and to ensure the works can be completed in a timely fashion without unreasonable delay”.
It says it expects the work to finish at the end of July.
